Why Buy Organic?

A recent survey has just proved that organic agriculture is better for bio-diversity. Of those studied it was found that the organic farms had many more species of insects, birds and wild plant life. If it is better for nature, surely it is better for you? Although as yet there are few concrete facts linking the use of chemicals on our food to our health, surely common sense alone tells us that the fewer unnatural additives the better?

By converting into organic production the farmer becomes subject to strict rules and regulations concerning everything from soil fertility to animal welfare. As such, when you buy organic British produce you are guaranteed the highest levels of quality all the way through the production process. Organic farming is not about excluding regular farmers and certainly a consumer would do much better to buy locally produced seasonal food than "organic" alternatives that have been flown in from the furthest corners of the globe. "Food miles" is an essential organic concept some opportunistic exporters have chosen to forget.

By not relying on indiscriminate use of chemicals in their fields and drugs on their animals, organic farmers control weeds and disease with the highest levels of husbandry. This invariably means better a higher standard of life for our animals and wildlife. Organic farming is all about respect. Respect for nature and respect for our food.
