Our Dairy:

While driving along the A303 by the Salisbury Marlborough turn off you may have seen our dairy herd of "black and whites" (Friesians) and roan Shorthorns being walked over the bridge to the milking parlour. Before the bridge traffic had to be stopped as the dairyman walked his herd across the motorway!

Our cows have a deliciously varied diet depending on the time of the year. During the spring and the summer the cows enjoy acres of specially planted leys thick with clovers, sainfoin, Lucerne, and many different types of grasses. During the wetter winter months the cows are fed silage (chopped fermented grass harvested the summer before), straw, hay and barley. Being organic, pretty much all of the food the cows are fed has been produced on the Estate.

Our diary cows enjoy lives well beyond the horrific national commercial dairy farm average of around five years. We have lovely old dears still producing wonderful milk at 18 years of age, keeping the younger cows in line!

Our organic Cholderton milk is a wonderful raw material from which to produce our range of seasonal ice creams, vanilla custards, yoghurts and creams - including clotted cream made in the traditional way. Also available simply pasteurized, our milk is wonderfully creamy and tastes like milk should.
